Music – Uplifting and bringing us together through Music
The Music curriculum at Victoria Primary School is designed to give our children a wide range of enjoyable experiences that help to build their confidence and creativity. We encourage visitors who perform live music to our pupils.
We teach our children to sing in tune and with other people. Through learning and singing a wide range of songs, our children learn about the structure and organization of music. They listen to and learn to appreciate a range of different forms of music and develop their descriptive skills, when learning about how music can represent feelings and emotions. Children learn the skills of recognizing pulse and pitch in a piece of music. They have the opportunity to work collaboratively with others to combine sounds to compose their own music. They learn musical notation and how to compose music, linked to other areas of their learning across the curriculum.
Our children take part in weekly singing and have the opportunity to join a choir when they are in KS2. The choir performs at different venues and events, for example, the local care home for elderly residents, St. George’s Hall at the Schools’ Prom and at the local shopping centre for the Christmas lights switch on. Pupils have the opportunity to learn different instruments, including keyboard, ukulele and recorder. They also experience a range of different untuned instruments when composing their own music.
