Welcome to Years 3 and 4
General Information
Welcome to the Year 3 and 4 page!
Here we aim to share useful information that you can refer back to, and also celebrate and share the children’s learning.
What is happening and when?
- Our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kits on those days.
- Please read with your child for 10 minutes daily.
- Please ensure your child brings their reading book and school diary to school every day in their book bag. This lets us change their books regularly once they have read them.
The staff in Anne Frank Class are class teacher Miss Kunz and and associate staff Mrs Brickles, Mrs Sisley and Miss Bano.
The staff in Malala Class are class teachers Mrs Majid and Mrs Bibi and associate staff member Miss Beck.
The staff in Rosa Parks Class are class teacher Ms Streets and associate staff Mrs Mahmood and Mrs Sisley.

Year 3 and 4 statutory spellings
Below are the Year 3 and Year 4 statutory spellings. These are covered through weekly spelling tests but any additional practice will help the children become confident with the spellings. Repetition and application into writing is key when it comes to helping children to remember their spellings. Thank you for your ongoing support with this.
Our learning in Years 3 and 4
As we have mixed age group classes, we have a two-year rolling programme to ensure our children cover the national curriculum effectively and learn the content they need in a progressive way. This means whether they start in Key Stage 2 in Year A or Year B they will cover the content they need in a way that builds their skills progressively.
The academic year 2024 - 2025 is Year B.

Some of us even had a go at dressing up as Ancient Egyptians!
Design and Technology
In Design and Technology we were solving problems. We had to help a community who live on a mountain to design a way to transport their crops of tomatoes down the mountain to the market, without dropping or squashing them. It was not as easy as it first seemed, the tomatoes kept falling out!
Cooking and Nutrition
We also enjoyed our cooking and nutrition lessons, learning how to make different delicious dishes that we then enjoyed eating!
We made Rarebit toasts with different added vegetables like spring onions.
When we visited Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in our History work, we also learned about the science of steam engines, which was good fun!
Geography
In our Geography work we have had a great time at Carlton Keighley, our local secondary school. We have worked in their sports hall and in the school grounds to learn the skills of orienteering, being able to orientate a map and then follow directions to find the next clue.
A look at some of our learning
History
In History we have been learning about Ancient Egypt and visited Bagshaw Museum to find out more about life in Ancient Egyptian times. We had a go at being archaeologists and digging up artefacts.
We learned about Egyptian hieroglyphs.
We also learned about the gruesome process of making mummies.
Science
We have had great fun in our science lessons this year. We particularly enjoyed learning about the different states of matter: solids, liquids and gases.
We carried out an investigation to see what happened when gas was released.
Even though we were waiting for it, our exploding canisters made us jump!
We learned how to ask historically valid questions about the artefacts we found.
We had to evaluate our designs and improve them. Some children designed lids to keep the tomatoes safe.
Another favourite was our delicious chocolate buns!
We also enjoyed using wires, bulbs, batteries and buzzers to make and investigate circuits.
We improved our skills at reading maps and plans by plotting the route of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway using a very old map and a modern map.
We put them together like a jigsaw puzzle and it was really tricky!
